Background
In 2024, Romania’s parliament passed a bill requiring all prosumers with PV systems between 10.8 kW and 400 kW to install energy storage systems. Existing prosumers with systems between 3 kW and 400 kW must also comply by December 31, 2027, or their electricity export to the grid will be limited to 3 kW.
The capacity of prosumer installations exceeded 2,200 MW at the end of November 2024. This is a large number of prosumers in the country, who feed their excess solar energy into the network, which in turn leads to congestion and blackouts. Therefore, the installation of home energy storage systems is a necessary step.
Challenge
