Background:
In Belgium, a family-run mixed farm has long embraced sustainability. They’ve been cultivating all-natural quinoa since 2015, a pioneer in Belgian quinoa farming, also forward-thinking in energy strategy — they installed on-site solar PV to reduce reliance on the grid.
Задачи:
With solar panels already in place, the farm set its sights on upgrading from passive energy generation to an intelligent, self-managed system. In today’s energy landscape, this shift has become more important than ever as most PV installations no longer receive high returns from exporting electricity to the grid.
Without the ability to steer their PV production and consume most of the energy on-site, solar investments risk losing value. The farm needed a smarter way to control, store, and profit from its energy.
Решение:
POWEROAD delivered 11 units of FLEX 215 All-in-one outdoor energy storage system, a total capacity of 1.1 MW / 2.3 MWh. They are located at three different project sites within one farm, with this innovative energy setup, the farm is able to:
- Maximize solar self-consumption: Store surplus solar energy for later use, significantly reducing reliance on grid power.
- Trade on local imbalance market: Smartly charges up the battery system when there’s a lot of electricity available and the price is low. Sells electricity when there’s not enough available and prices in the market are higher.
- Stabilize the grid: Improve grid resilience against fluctuations and potential power outages, protecting their daily operations.
The result is a smarter, more efficient energy strategy—fully aligned with the farm’s values of self-reliance and sustainability.
Стоимость проекта:
- Энергетическая независимость
The farm now powers most of its operations with clean, self-generated energy, reducing exposure to unstable power grid.
- Additional Revenue Stream
By actively trading on the imbalance market and optimizing energy use, the farm has created a new revenue stream.
- Highly Integrated, Efficient Deployment
POWEROAD’s integrated system design significantly reduces upfront investment. The FLEX 215 AIO ESS combines batteries, PCS, EMS and fire protection system into a single unit—fully tested before delivery and transported. Its modular architecture allows the system to be easily scaled according to actual energy needs, keeping CAPEX to a minimum.

From natural crops to renewable energy, this Belgian farm demonstrates how the energy transition can drive rural development. By generating their own green electricity with POWEROAD’s FLEX 215 All-in-one ESS, they reduce dependence on costly grid power and cut overall energy costs. At the same time, they unlock a new revenue stream by trading surplus solar energy, further increasing ROI.
