Background:
Sweden is accelerating toward a fossil-free energy system and a sustainable transition in its electric vehicles sector. But this shift brings growing pressure on the electricity grid, especially as more EV chargers and solar systems connect to the already strained infrastructure.
Grid congestion, limited power capacity, and uneven availability of charging points are now among the most urgent challenges in Sweden’s energy transition.
Задачи:
At a new EV charging site in Sweden, the operator aimed to deliver reliable, sustainable charging without adding stress to the local grid. With solar generation on-site and AC chargers installed, the key challenge became: How to maximize self-consumption and ensure stable operation in a constrained grid environment? To achieve this, an investment in energy storage is required.
Решение:
POWEROAD provided five FLEX 215 Air Cooling Outdoor Energy Storage Cabinets, totaling 500kW / 1,075 kWh of capacity. The system is integrated with:
- On-site solar PV system
- Existing AC chargers
The battery system supports three key functions:
✅Load Balancing — Smoothing power supply to chargers during peak times.
✅Energy Reserve — Storing solar energy for later use, reducing grid dependence.
✅Participate in Ancillary Services — When charger use is low, the battery participates in aFRR market, helping to stabilize the national grid.

Стоимость проекта:
- Grid Support & New Revenue:The battery not only supports charging needs but also earns revenue by delivering balancing services to the grid.
- Ready for Nordic Climate:The FLEX 215 is designed and tested for reliable operation in -30℃ extreme low temperature conditions.
- Smooth Integration:POWEROAD’s modular FLEX 215 ESS fits seamlessly into the existing energy setup, which contains PV panels, chargers, and the local grid, with minimal effort and maximum flexibility.
This project shows how smart energy storage can turn EV charging sites into active energy hubs, achieving sustainability, efficiency, and profitability all at once.
