● Context:

Aiming to become energy-neutral by 2030, a sports center in the Netherlands has committed to reducing its energy consumption by 25% through a range of renewable solutions. Located alongside a busy highway, the center sees high, fluctuating energy demands, particularly during peak usage times when facilities such as lighting, heating, and ventilation systems operate at full capacity. To address these demands and optimize energy use, the center recognized the need for a robust energy management solution.

 

● Provocare:

Despite having over 5,200 solar panels and other renewable energy sources, the center faced challenges in managing fluctuating energy generation and consumption patterns, particularly during peak usage times. The sports center’s primary challenge was to manage its peak energy demand and control operational costs without compromising service. Peak energy use not only strained the local grid but also led to costly peak demand charges. The center required an energy storage solution that would align with its sustainability goals while providing reliable support during high-demand times, making energy usage both efficient and economical.

 

● Soluție:

POWEROAD provided the sports center with the FLEX 215 Dulap de răcire cu aer pentru exterior ESS, with  the capacity of 1 MW / 2.15 MWh, optimized for peak shaving. The ESS integrates seamlessly with the center’s electrical network, storing excess energy generated during off-peak times and discharging it when energy demand is high. This approach ensures that the center can meet its energy needs without drawing costly peak power from the grid.

 

By reducing peak demand, the POWEROAD FLEX 215 not only lowers energy costs but also supports the center’s goal of reducing its overall energy consumption. Additionally, the ESS serves as a backup during periods of grid instability, providing reliable energy that further enhances the center’s energy resilience.

 

Since deploying the POWEROAD FLEX 215 ESS, the sports center has achieved:
