POWEROAD’s FLEX 261 Series, including FLEX 261, FLEX 261 AIO, and FLEX 261 AIO-3S, has successfully passed a Large-Scale Fire Test (LSFT) conducted in accordance with CSA/ANSI C800:2025 and ANSI/CAN/UL 9540A:2026 Sixth Edition. The test validated the system-level fire safety performance of the C&I battery energy storage system (BESS), with no flame propagation observed to adjacent target units under the tested conditions.
The Large-Scale Fire Test was designed to evaluate the behavior of a complete BESS installation under a severe fire scenario, including the potential for fire and thermal effects from one battery unit to impact surrounding units. Unlike cell- or module-level testing, LSFT assesses the overall system performance by evaluating the interaction of enclosure design, thermal management, safety controls, and system architecture.
During the test, five BESS cabinets were arranged to simulate a multi-unit installation scenario. All battery packs were charged to 100% state of charge (SOC) before testing. To evaluate the system’s intrinsic safety capabilities, active fire protection systems were disabled, and cabinet doors were kept open to allow sufficient oxygen supply and sustain combustion throughout the test.
The evaluation showed that critical temperatures remained within the required limits, and no flame propagation occurred to the target BESS units. Adjacent units remained thermally stable throughout the test, demonstrating the FLEX 261 Series’ ability to contain a severe fire event and prevent escalation within a multi-unit installation.
Designed for commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage applications, the FLEX 261 Series includes three configurations: FLEX 261, a battery-only system; FLEX 261 AIO, an all-in-one ESS; and FLEX 261 AIO-3S, a 3S-integrated ESS featuring POWEROAD’s in-house BMS, PCS, and PMS/EMS.
With integrated safety features covering battery management, thermal management, electrical protection, and system design, the FLEX 261 Series represents POWEROAD’s continued commitment to advancing safer and more reliable energy storage solutions. The completion of the LSFT provides additional system-level validation to support the deployment of C&I BESS solutions in global markets.
