Empowering Sustainable Farming with POWEROADs ESS Solution

Projekt Farm ESS: Zrównoważone rolnictwo dzięki rozwiązaniu POWEROAD ESS

● Background

In the Dutch countryside, a family-owned livestock farm is combining tradition with innovation to create a more sustainable future. With a successful track record in farming, the owner recognized that sustainability would be key to long-term growth and environmental stewardship. Already equipped with solar panels, the farm took its commitment to renewable energy a step further with an energy storage solution (ESS) from POWEROAD, setting its sights on grid interaction and advanced energy management.

● Challenge:

For agricultural operations, energy costs can be unpredictable, particularly with fluctuations in solar generation. To maximize their renewable energy use and reduce dependency on grid power, the farm owner needed a way to store and strategically use the excess solar energy generated on-site. Additionally, the goal was to offset energy expenses through opportunities like grid imbalance trading——where surplus energy is sold back to the grid at peak times, generating an additional revenue stream. However, achieving this level of energy management in a rural setting required a robust and flexible ESS solution tailored for dynamic market interaction.

Rozwiązanie

POWEROAD provided the farm with the FLEX 215 Chłodzenie powietrzem Szafa zewnętrzna ESS, a 62.5kW / 215kWh setup designed to store excess solar energy efficiently and manage power usage based on real-time market conditions. Through POWEROAD’s advanced data analytics and control capabilities, the ESS continuously monitors and analyzes grid conditions to participate in the imbalance market. This strategic trading approach allows the farm to earn additional revenue by releasing stored energy when grid demand is high, while still preserving enough power for self-sufficiency and operational stability.

With POWEROAD’s FLEX 215, the farm can balance its energy needs with the demands of the grid. The ESS contributes to overall grid stability, aligns with the farm’s sustainability objectives, and maximizes profitability——all while reducing its carbon footprint.

Since implementing POWEROAD’s ESS, the livestock farm has achieved significant milestones:

  • Enhanced Self-Sufficiency: The ESS optimally stores and releases solar energy, reducing grid reliance and minimizing energy costs.
  • Revenue Generation: The farm actively participates in spot power trading on the imbalance market, adding a steady revenue stream.
  • Grid Stability Contribution: By trading energy when the grid is in need, the farm supports grid stability, making a broader impact on the local energy network.

This project showcases how traditional farming practices can integrate seamlessly with innovative renewable energy solutions, establishing a blueprint for sustainable agricultural practices in the Netherlands and beyond. POWEROAD’s FLEX 215 not only empowers the farm owner to meet his sustainability goals but also provides a scalable, revenue-generating model for other farmers across Europe looking to adopt green energy practices.
