A KFC restaurant in Mandaue’s coastal area had already installed a 49.84 kWp PV system, but the capacity was insufficient to meet its operational needs. To further cut electricity bills and ensure reliable supply, the customer planned to install an additional 132 kWp PV system and integrate it with BESS.

The project required seamless coordination among PV, storage, grid, and diesel generator, with fast switching times and robust performance in a coastal, high-humidity environment.

The system helps the customer reduce electricity bills by:

  • Maximizing solar self-consumption: During the day, PV generation is prioritized for on-site loads, with surplus stored in the battery for later use.
  • Loadshifting: During peak hours, the ESS discharges to offset grid consumption; at night or during off-peak hours, it can charge from excess PV or lower-cost grid power, minimizing operating expenses.
  • Reliable off-grid operation: In the event of a grid outage, the system automatically switches to off-grid mode. PV and ESS continue to power critical loads, and when PV and ESS is insufficient, the diesel generator starts to ensure uninterrupted operation.
