Un proyecto industrial de ESS impulsa la independencia energética de una planta de reciclaje de metales en los Países Bajos

Proyecto industrial ESS: Fomento de la independencia energética en una planta de reciclaje de metales en los Países Bajos

Antecedentes:

A long-established metal recycling company in the Netherlands is taking significant steps toward sustainability, not only by promoting circular practices in metal recovery but also by transitioning to fully electric operations.

The site currently operates two major electric machines: a heavy-duty crane for moving scrap and an industrial shear for cutting metal. While these machines support the shift toward electrification, they also introduce energy-related challenges that require innovative solutions.

To further support its green mission, the company also installed 1,600 solar panels, producing approximately 600 kWp and 530,000 kWh annually.

Desafíos:

  1. Peak Demand Spikes: The crane and shear caused substantial power surges, often exceeding the site’s contracted grid capacity.
  2. Solar Mismatch: Despite a large solar installation, energy generation and consumption were not aligned, forcing the facility to rely on grid electricity during non-optimal times.
  3. Risk of Exceeding Contracted Capacity: Surpassing contracted grid limits posed cost and supply reliability concerns.

Solución:

To address these challenges, POWEROAD provided a FLEX 215 Armario exterior ESS with a capacity of 125kW / 215kWh. This smart battery storage system was designed to:

Store Excess Solar Energy: Charges during sunny periods using self-generated clean power.

Deliver Power On-Demand: Rapidly supplies energy to heavy machines during peak usage, avoiding grid dependency and penalties.

Increase Energy Self-Sufficiency: Enhances the use of on-site solar power and reduces reliance on the external grid.

Modular & Scalable: The system is modular, allowing for easy expansion as the company electrifies more processes in the future.

Valor del proyecto:

  • 55% Increase in Energy Self-Sufficiency
  • 6,737 kg CO2 Emissions Avoided since installation
  • Reduced Peak Demand and lower dependence on grid electricity
  • Greater Operational Flexibility with a future-ready, scalable energy storage solution
