POWEROAD and strategic partner Octave have jointly deployed many successful projects in Belgium.
As one of the successful projects, this project involves the deployment of large-scale POWEROAD FLEX 215 AIO battery energy storage systems across multiple agricultural sites in a rural area in West Flanders, Belgium, a deployment that has earned the project the Projects Excellence | Application Innovation Award.
The systems are integrated with existing renewable energy generation and are centrally managed to maximize operational efficiency and economic value. The project demonstrates how advanced energy storage can support both sustainable agriculture and grid stability.
Scenario:
An energy-intensive agricultural operation with on-site renewable generation required a solution to improve energy self-consumption, manage price volatility, and create additional revenue streams. The challenge was to implement a flexible, market-optimized storage solution across multiple nearby locations while ensuring reliable operation, minimal disruption, and compliance with grid and market requirements.
Application:
The systems are used for energy arbitrage on the imbalance market, intelligent charging and discharging based on real-time market signals, and optimization of locally generated renewable energy. The project enhances grid flexibility while supporting the electrification and decarbonization of agricultural operations.

Capacity:
- Total energy storage capacity: 1100 kW / 2300 kWh
- Total inverter capacity: 1100 kW
- Number of sites: 3 locations within a one-kilometre radius
Project highlight:
The project successfully aggregates multiple distributed battery systems into a single, intelligently controlled portfolio.
By combining advanced energy management software with robust hardware and professional project execution by Octave‘s trusted installation partner Argona , the installation delivers both financial performance and grid support — setting a new benchmark for energy storage in the agricultural sector.
Besides, the Octave EMS has a unique architecture characterized by deep integration with the BESS, cutting-edge local optimization, and open access to a wide range of optimizers that deliver trading services on wholesale and imbalance markets.
